We have been involved in raising and breeding Chihuahuas for over 10 years.  Here is a picture of our Chihuahua Family Tree.  In the back row, I am dressed in purple holding Garcia's Munchkin, our matriarch.  And next to her is Angel Tree Star Jasmine.  The rest of the dogs in the photo are all from our Kennel.  Please look on Our Dogs page for more photos of the wonderful moms.  And you can see more photos of the puppies we have bred on our Puppies page.

 

When my daughter, Katharine, was little, I knew we needed to get her a dog because she loved them so.  At that time, I saw myself as a cat person.  In fact, I "never met a cat I didn't love".  And it was serendipity that we were introduced to these amazing little bundles of love.  I told Katharine that we would look at some little dogs, and Chihuahuas were the only ones listed.  So, not to disappoint her, I took her to see the Garcia pups.  They won her heart and mine.  And I now call them "puppycats"; for they truly have the best attributes of dogs and the best attributes of cats.  They love to cuddle and sleep under the covers with us.  The only thing they don't do is purr.  And amazingly, when puppies are developing, they go through a stage of making a noise that sounds like they are trying to purr.  Actually, it is when they are developing their growl. 

 

Katharine and I can't imagine not having Chihuahuas in our lives.  The first breeding we did was of Munchkin.  And we did it because we wanted her to have a buddy, someone to keep her company when we were gone.  We couldn't imagine finding another Chihuahua as wonderful as she was, so we bred her to make one more much like her.  Star Jasmine was more than we even hoped for.  Not only was she beautiful and sweet, she was also very bright and easily learned many words.

 

Everywhere we go, people stop to talk to us, and to meet and pet our lovely little girls.  They exclaim that our Chihuahuas are amazingly calm, confident, and friendly.  We agree.  They certainly have helped us meet some great new friends.  And essentially all of our Chihuahuas have been sold to people who have seen the moms and said, "I want one of her puppies when she has them."

 

They are also great "Watch Dogs".  Although they are very friendly when we go out, the are very conscientious at letting us know when someone they don't know comes to the house.  (They are not, however, "Guard Dogs" that would attack.  For that, you need a much bigger breed.)  And they get along well with their "Cousin" who is a Golden Retriever-Chow mix as well as with our Bengal Cats.
